Route 24: Cerulean City - Trainer Bridge

Maria and her three pokemon were walking up the bridge to visit Bill after beating Misty at the Gym. A trainer caught her eye and turned to her, "You'll have tp beat me if you want to get any farther..."
She glared at him, "Then prepare yourself for a beating..."

Battle:

The trainer sent out an Ekans.

"Alright, Eve let's go!" Maria said. Eve stepped forward, confronting the large purple snake.

"Ekans use bite!" The trainer shouted.

"Dodge it and use Quick attack!" Eve followed suit and dodged the snake, making it slam into the ground. He dug his feet into the ground and jumped with a twist. Eve tackled Ekans to the ground.

"Now, while it's stunned use a body slam!" Maria said. Eve rushed the snake once again.

"Use poison sting!" The trainer called. Ekans stung Eve with poison needles. Eve backed away, trying to shake them out of his fur.

"Eve use return!" Maria called to him. The brown fox attacked the snake once more, knocking it to the ground, unconcious.

The trainer recalled Ekans, "It won't be so easy this time!" He sent out a sandshrew, "GO!"

"Alright Eve, you've done enough. Come on back." She called to him. Eve bounded over to his trainer and landed on her shoulder. "Good, now Chardar let's go, this will be no problem for you." Chardar walked over and looked down at the sandshrew. "Char."

"Sandshrew use sand-attack!" It knocked dust into Chardar's face. He swatted it away.

"Chardar Metal Claw attack!" He slashed at the Sandshrew with his sharp claws, "Follow it up with an Ember attack!" Maria said quickly.

The sandshrew backed away, "Use scratch attack!" The ground type pokemon scratched at the air, too afraid to get too close to Charmeleon.

"Alright Chardar use Ember once more!" Maria called. The sandshrew hit the ground, knocked out. "Good job Chardar!" Maria called to him as he walked back to her.

"Nice job trainer! You beat me... now go to the end of the bridge. There's someone waiting for you."

Maria headed down the bridge with Eve in her arms.


"Well done! Here's your prize!" He said, handing her a gold nugget.

"Thanks." Maria said, and before he could say another word, bounded off towards Bill's house...

[Kathy]

"Bolt, Quick Attack!" Bolt nodded and attacked Bellsprout. It hit dead on and Bellsprout fainted. "Perfect, great job Bolt" Kathy threw a PokeBall. Bellsprout disappeared as the ball shook...
and shook...
and shook...
then it stopped. Kathy smiled and gave Bolt a pat as she watched the ball disappear.

[Kathy]

Kathy continued on with Bolt singing along. Kathy smiled at it and placed Eevee down on the ground. "I'm a little tired...let's take a br-" Her voice was cut off by a taller girl with blond hair. She pointed at Bolt and said, "I challenge you and that Pikachu!!" She smiled a greedy one and a Raichu came up behind her with a Sandslash. Kathy looked up and smiled as well. "Okay, here it goes!! Bolt, we gonna win this!" They girl smirked, "If you beat me, you can continue on with the Trainer Bridge, if not...then run back to the Pokemon Center and stay away!!" Kathy groaned and glanced at the two Pokemon. She took out her PokeDex. "Gee...I haven't done this in a long time."


Raichu: It turns aggressive if it has too much electricity in its body. It discharges power through its tail.

Sandslash: It curls up, then rolls into foes with its back. Its sharp spines inflict severe damage.

Kathy put away her Dex and nodded to Bolt and Diamond. "Well, a double battle begins here...you against the amazing Nina," the girl smirked. Kathy smiled, "Okay! Ready you guys?" She gave both a nod. "Pika!!" Bolt was ready, "Eeee!!" and so was Eevee.

[Kathy]

Nina called out her attacks first, "Sandslash, Slash and Raichu, Thunder Bolt!" Sandslash aimed a Slash to Eevee and Raichu did it's to Bolt. "Dodge!!" Bolt and Diamond jumped out of the way. "Okay, Quick Attack!!" Both Bolt and Diamond did a Quick Attack, confusing Raichu and Sandslash. Both made a hit.

"Sandslash, Sand Attack, Raichu, Iron Tail!!" Sandslash blinded Bolt and Diamond and Bolt was hit with Raichu's Iron Tail. "Quick Eevee, Sand Attack!" Eevee shook the sand off and did it's Sand Attack, which also blinded Raichu and Sandslash. "Okay Bolt, Double Team! Diamond, Quick Attack and hit them both. While Bolt made illusions of itself, confusing Raichu and Sandslash, Diamond hit both with it's Quick Attack. Then they both fainted. Kathy cheered and gave both a hug. "Nice going ya!!"

Nina groaned, frustrated as she returned her Pokemon. Kathy smiled at her two Pokemon. She went over to shake with Nina, but she had disappear, so Kathy continued.

[Kathy]

Kathy smiled at her Pokemon. They helped her win against Nina and now they were happily eating their prize, berries Bolt founded on the ground. It wasn't long until they spotted an Abra, asleep.


It sleeps for 18 hours a day. Even when awake, it teleports itself while remaining seated.

"An Abra huh? Well, let's catch it!! Diamond, give it a Tackle!!" Diamond pounced from Kathy's arm and charged for it's Tackle; But before it made a hit, Abra used Teleport and Diamond hit a Mankey.

"Huh? Where did it g-" Diamond was being chased by the Mankey. "Diamond!!" she turned to Bolt, "Hit it Bolt!!" Bolt concentrated and cried out. "Pika....chuuuuu!!!!" The Thunder Shock hit the Mankey as it stopped. The shock was strong, for it made the Mankey faint. "Great job Bolt, now go PokeBall!!" Mankey disappear in the ball, but Kathy was too busy to notice that.

"Are you okay Diamond?" Kathy gave it a warm hug. Diamond snuggled some more in Kathy's arms. Then Bolt came over and pointed to the ball as it began to disappear. "Guess Mankey is mine...let's get back to the center." Then all headed back.

After catching a not wanted Psyduck, Kathy headed back to the Trainer's Bridge, frustrated, but soon got out of it when Diamond manage to cheer her up. They met up with a young boy named John, who is an expert in Pokemon. He has a few Pokemon, which made the world of Pokemon dangerous to him. They both quickly made friends when the group of Beedrills missed them. Now Kathy is challenging another boy, David, who trains Fire Pokemon...


"Okay, let's battle, 2 each!!" David smiled and sent out Vulpix. Kathy called out Haze, her Pidgeotto, "Okay!"


It controls balls of fire. As it grows, its six tails split from their tips to make more tails.

"Let's start it Haze, Gust!" And with a whip of it's wings, Haze let released a powerful Gust. "Vulpix, Confuse Ray!" Vulpix's eyes began to glow and as it did, the Gust went right back to Haze! It was knocked out pretty badly, but was back up again and tried Gust again, but Vulpix did it's Confuse Ray again too, leaving Haze tired. "Let's finish it Vulpix, Flamethrower!!" Vulpix inhaled and shot a Flamethrower at Haze. At first Kathy couldn't see anything through the flames, but when it cleared, there was Haze, on the ground, fainted. Kathy returned it and thanked Haze for the great battle. She picked another ball and threw it out on the battlefield, Smokey...

"Charr..." Smokey glared at Vulpix and began with a Metal Claw, hitting dead. Vulpix wasn't hurt badly, but was too weak to try a physical attack, because of the two Confuse Ray's. "Smokey, Smokescreen!!" Smokey covered the battlefield with smoke. Vulpix had trouble finding Smokey, but when it did, it was too late, for Smokey hit it again with a Metal Claw. Vulpix fainted. David returned it, petting it's PokeBall.

David held up another ball, "Go, Growlithe!" A puppy-like Pokemon came out of it's ball and yawned. David smiled confidently. "You can still battle right?" Smokey did looked tired, but that was her only Pokemon for the battle. "Come on Smokey, Scratch!" Smokey ran over and hit Growlithe with it's scratch. Growlithe didn't give up easily and used Bite, but missed. "Smokescreen!" Smokey once again used Smokescreen, blinding Growlithe.

"Growlithe, Flame Wheel!!" Growlithe growled and ran, with flames, flames all over it. The Flame Wheel hit Smokey, but without damaging it much. "Smokey, Metal Claw!!" Growlithe was still in it's Flame Wheel position and charged towards Smokey. "Dodge, now Metal Claw!!" Smokey knocked Growlithe from it's Flame Wheel, also damaging it. "Alright Smokey, let's finish this, Scratch!!" Smokey hit Growlithe tight. Growlithe took the damage then fainted.

Kathy smiled and gave Smokey a pat. "You were awesome!!" Diamond raced towards them along with Bolt and they both cheered for Smokey. Kathy returned it and shook with David. "Nice battle!" David smiled and thanked her for the great battle.

The sun was setting and Kathy knew it would be dark soon so they all headed back to Cerulean, excited.

"Smokey, Ember!!" Kathy was in a battle between the last trainer on Trainer's Bridge. She didn't know what the prize was, but tried it anyway. "Charrrr!!!" Bits of flames shot from his mouth, burning Nidoking. It shook fiercely and jammed Smokey with a Slam. Smokey was hit badly, but it was back up. "Try Metal Claw!" Smokey, now angry, aimed a Metal Claw at Nidoking, but missed. Then Nidoking ended it with a Focus Punch. Kathy frowned and returned Smokey. She has lost.

They were walking on the soft grass, but Smokey didn't feel soft. He has lost a battle, an important one. Smokey growled kicked the grass. Kathy,John, and their Pokemon were eating outside. All of the Pokemon are playing, everyone but Smokey. He sat alone, thinking of his failure. Bolt came to sit with him, then they just gazed at the sky.

Kathy frowned and was deep in thoughts. "Guess I'll never forget this lost..." John took a bite out of his sandwich, "Maybe you should train while you get the chance." Kathy thought about that, "Maybe your right!" She went over to Smokey, smiling, "Come on, let's take a walk!" Smokey glanced at her, unsure. But then he agreed.

Kathy and Smokey walked through the endless grasslands, without a word. Kathy mumbled and finally said something, "We came here so we can train a bit more. And if you do, you can maybe defeat that Nidoking...or what ever Pokemon he has...by the way...I can be fun to practice alone." Kathy was unsure of her success, Smokey doesn't seem happy. She looked back at Smokey...but it was gone.

[Kathy]

"Smokey!!" Smokey has ran off. And Kathy had no idea where it was. "Smokey!!!" Kathy groaned, but saw something, she wasn't sure what it was. The something was red, with fire. She took a closer look and it came to be Smokey! But Smokey was doing something...something with fire.

Smokey threw a pit of fire onto the weeds. Kathy gave him a good idea, maybe he should train...alone. But he didn't know what Kathy meant. Alone with her or alone alone. He stomped the grass, feeling pitiful. Then, a group of Oddish ran into his path. "Char,Char!!" Out of my way!! The Oddish responded in an angry voice. Smokey had enough and gave each one his specialty, Ember. The Oddish quickly got into line and began to shoot a Razor Leaf at Smokey. But Smokey easily burned all down and used Ember on each.

Kathy almost ran to hug him, but he was doing something...battling. Kathy almost grinned. Smokey was against a line of Oddish. All were trying there best to get rid of Smokey. Smokey finished all up, but we met by more..."It's an Oddish colony!!" The other Oddish were now releasing Sleep Power. "There sure are lots of them..." She rushed over to Smokey. "Ember!!" Smokey shot an Ember and made the sleep power useless. "Okay, Metal Claw!!" Smokey glared at all of them, angry. "Charr!!" Smokey finished all with his Metal Claw. "You did it Smokey!!" But something was happening...something...

[Kathy]

Smokey was glowing white...bright white. He started to grow...to evolve...His claws grew bigger, his head grew, tail and itself. Wings began to appear on his back. He grew big...until the brightness stopped...

There was no Smokey!! Kathy thought about what just happened, but spotted a flying Pokemon...flying towards her...it was Smokey, a full grown Charmander, it was Charizard. Kathy suddenly felt excited, jumpy, and warm. She quickly snatched her PokeDex.

Charmeleon has evolved into a Charizard!

It is said that Charizard's fire burns hotter if it has experienced harsh battles.

[Kathy]

Kathy rode on Smokey as they headed back to their picnic. All of the Pokemon were surprised to see a Charizard, but soon found out that it is Smokey. The cheered for him for evolving.

Soon, they got ready to leave. John said that he wanted to sleep in the Pokemon Center tonight. Kathy didn't really care, but had some more important things to do. She left all of her Pokemon at the center...but Charizard. She asked John to pick up her Pokemon and when he gave her a nod, she ran off in the night.


John entered the center. "I wonder where Kathy is going...oh well, I'll get something to eat." After munching down, he picked up Kathy's Pokemon, like she asked. He sat down and yawned. "She better be back soon..." Then, a trio of kids came. "Hey loser, going to sleep eh?" one smirked. Another one called him a flea and the other one asked for a battle. "Of course, you don't have to if you are too chicken!!" the third boy said after awhile. John stood up, frustrated. "I accept!!" They exited the Center and found a nice field for their battle. The first boy smirked and called out a Fearow. John picked one from Kathy's batch and threw it out, Bolt. Bolt yawned and glared at Fearow. "Good...a great match!!" John smiled, he hasn't been in a Pokemon battle in a long time and knew he'll win, or at least try his best in this one...

Kathy ran towards the bridge, but nearly crashed into someone. She fell to the ground, groaning. "Hey what th-" It was the boy...the boy who had defeated her. Instantly, she stood up and gave him a frown. "Well, what do you know...the little mouse has returned!!" The boy laughed. Kathy glared at him, angry. "I have come prepared, and come to get another battle!!" The boy grinned, "Alright, I always give mice a chance, she smirked and pointed to a clearing, "We'll battle there." Kathy snorted, "What do you know, I'll beat you this time!!" When both were ready, the boy called Nidoking once again. "What Pokemon are you gonna use this time little mouse? That mini rat again?" He smirked. Kathy grew frustrated, "This time your's gonna be the tiny rat, go!!" She threw Smokey's ball, with a smile spreading across her face...

"Fearow, Wing Attack!!" "Fearr!!!" Fearow dived to the Earth, to Bolt. John thought fast, "Bolt, use Quick Attack to dodge and attack!!" Bolt easily dodged and pounced to Fearow at full speed. "Pikaa!!!" It made a direct hit. Fearow made a sharp landing as Bolt use Quick Attack again. "Okay, Thunder Shock!!" Bolt began sparking and cried. "Pika...chuuu!!!!" It powerfully hit Fearow as it shrieked then faint. "Good job Bolt!!" John gave it a smile. The boy quickly returned his Fearow and yelled at John, "You little flea!! Come on guys!" The other two threw in their balls...
"Goduck!!"
"Kadabra"

"Harrrr!!!" Smokey came out, and Kathy could see the surprise on his face. He scolded and said, "That thing doesn't scare me...!" Kathy smirked, "....much..." she added. "Go, Focus Punch Nidoking!!" Nidoking aimed it's attack at Smokey. "Dodge and use Flamethrower!!" Smokey quickly dodge and shot it's favorite attack. It hit dead on, and Nidoking was burned. "Nidoking, Horn Attack!" Smokey couldn't dodge this one and Nidoking made a hit. Smokey snorted and aimed a Wing Attack. "Nidoking, Megahorn!!" He smiled greedily. "Megahorn? What is that? Kathy thought. And before she knew it, Smokey was blasted by the powerful Megahorn. "Get up Smokey, we have to win this!!" Smokey got up, confident. "Fly and use Flamethrower!!" Smokey flew up and when in close range, burst fire from it's mouth. Nidoking got this one and fainted. Kathy couldn't resist she smiled and gave Smokey a thumbs up. The boy returned Nidoking and congrats Kathy for winning the Trainer Bridge prize, a Nugget. Kathy gleeful took it and thanked the boy, who headed back to Cerulean.

Kathy was heading back when she heard a yell, it was coming behind the bushes. To her surprise, John was battling, more like arguing with a trio of boys. She came over and asked what was going on. John explained everything until here. Kathy groaned. Smokey flew by and settled down with a thump. The boys looked scared to see Smokey and ran off with their Pokemon right behind.

[Kathy]

When there were all back at the Center, John explained that he had a great battle and all that. Kathy listen...to a little. She gave Smokey to Nurse Joy and went to sleep.

She woke up, refreshed. Then, her Nugget fell from her pocket. She wondered what it can do. She took it to Nurse Joy. "Oh, the Nugget is useless, you can sell it for more money." Kathy looked at it and said, "Okay, thanks Nurse Joy!!" She exited the Center and headed for the Mart. IT just opened, so she was the only one there. The clerk smiled and asked, "How may I help you?" Kathy held up her Nugget, "I was hoping to sell th-" The clerk grabbed it and exclaimed, "A Nugget!! Haven't had these in some time!!I'll pay you 5000 for it!!" Kathy knew that 5000 was alot and nodded. The clerk handed Kathy a jab a bucks and went to the back of the store.

Kathy skipped back to the Center to find John eating breakfast. "Hurry!!We have to go!" John groaned a bit and threw away his plate. "Come on!" Kathy raced through Cerulean and stopped at the bridge to wait for John. "Hurry!" John sped up and finally stopped to catch some breathes when they got off the bridge. It was a sunny day and the wind was running. Suddenly, black ink shot from somewhere in the water and hit the ground, right next to John. "Eek!! It almost hit me!" Kathy came closer to the stream and there was a Horsea, laughing. John came and screamed at the Horsea. It's glared at him and shot more ink. John ran and hid behind Kathy. She looked amazed at the Horsea. "I'm checking it out," she took out her PokeDex.

Horsea:
It makes its nest in the shade of corals. If it senses danger, it spits murky ink and flees.

[Kathy]

Kathy gave a nod at Bolt as it scamper up. "Thunder Shock!!" Bolt gave a cry and launched it's Thunder Shock. Horsea tried to dodge, but of course couldn't. The Thunder Shock paralyzed Horsea as it tried a Bubble. 'Okay, Quick Attack!!" Bolt charged at Horsea and jammed it with a Quick Attack. Horsea tried to stand on, but fainted. "Okay, go PokeBall!!" The ball shook...

then it stopped as it disappear. John came up to Kathy. "Why did you capture it?" John frowned, "You know what it tried to do to me!!"
Kathy gave him an annoying look, "Come on!! It could make a great Pokemon!!!"

[Kathy]

Kathy and John headed off again. Kathy spotted some trainers. "I'll visit Bill first, then I'll battle..." John looked around and nodded, "Great idea, just make everything fast!!" Kathy glanced at John and giggled. Bolt hopped onto John's head, "Pika,Pika!!" John smiled and cuddled it. Kathy cut in, "Come on, if you want this fast then we should start fast!!" Then they both raced ahead, to Route 25...

[Dark Slayer]

Dark ran across the bridge, passing all of the trainers without even looking at them. He wanted to train Spark a little bit, since he really didn't have much of a chance before. When he came across an Abra, he knew this was a good shot.

"Alright, Spark come on out and use your thunder wave!" When Spark was released it released a shock that hit Abra, making it stop in bewilderment. "Now! Use a thundershot and quick attack!" When Spark hit the Abra, it fainted and Dark pumped his arm in the air. "Alright, great job!"

He then trained Spark some more, getting it quite a bit stronger.
