Final battle of the Orange League, Aaron thought, walking down the long, winding road that led to the Stadium. It had been a long journey, and the journey would still go after he lost or won the Stadium league. The last final leader he had fought was Cassie, and that was with Mariah Wolff, one of his best friends and confidantes. She had somehow disappeared, and Aaron assumed they had lost in touch for good. It had grieved him for a while, but he knew with Chardar at her side, everything would be alright.
Three others he met were Jin Grapefruit, who was say the least an energetic and quick trainer, Harry Dark, perhaps the wisest and most intellectual trainer he had ever met, and Starla Wolf Magic, who was a street-smart and dangerously edgy beauty. His father, an Aide at Professor Oak's lab, had often encouraged Aaron via texts on his PokeNav, and his mom somehow always located Aaron and sent him care packages. So many who had helped Aaron achieve his goals.
As for the new region they called Yusoh, Aaron was still puzzled and excited to travel there. But he had to be strong and trained before even daring to enter the cold lands of a new Pokemon region. Aaron was wearing the best clothes he could find in his suitcase, and had ironed everything twice. Not every day you were going to be watched by millions of people. His parents were probably tuning in to watch him. He hoped some of his other friends were watching, too.
Walking under a mighty arch, Aaron entered the gates, where he was stopped by two guards. "Are you the one who has gotten four badges?" Aaron nodded, and showed them his badge case. The two guards whistled in admiration. "Not every day a youngster like you gets a badge like that. Last kid I remembered was some little Ketchup boy and his two friends, Brunch and Mist." Aaron wasn't sure what they were talking about, but smiled and nodded before walking past the guards, with full admission.
As he walked down the winding halls, a sudden cheer went up, and Aaron could hear from the distance loud roaring from the crowd. Those guards must have sent a message or such. Perspiration drenching his brow, Aaron took a deep breath. He would be cool. Very cool. Brushing a strand ofhair out of his face, Aaron tucked it behind his ear and then stepped into the light. It was a huge Colosseum, which Aaron couldn't help but stand in awe at.
Drake, his opponent, was on the opposite side of the field. He was slightly sun-burned, with jet black hair and a trainer's vest. He wore an odd Pokeball necklace, and wore a elaborate pair of jeans. Flashy freak, Aaron thought to himself. An announcer spoke into the speakers.
"Welcome to the Pummelo Stadium! Today we have a match set up between two faaab-ulous opponents. From our very own Pummelo, we have Drake Matthews!" The crowd roared and started to chant, 'Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake...' The announcer hushed the crowd. "And from Ironstar Island, a tropical island off the coast of Johto, is Aaron Nightshadow, a challenger who has conquered the Kanto region and the other Orange Crew Leaders!" A few cheers went up, but nothing big. Aaron wasn't fazed.
"So," the announcer continued, "Without further ado, let the games begin in... 1... 2... 3... START!" The crowd started to roar like heck! Aaron stared into the cool black eyes of Drake, his challenger. He had a cocky grin that even beat Aaron's. The fame's probably getting to him. Drake laughed cruelly and whispered no mercy. "Go, Ditto!" He yelled, releasing a blob-like Pokemon. Aaron had heard of the troubles people had with Dittos. "Clash, go!"
Aaron's Heracross, Clash, shot out of his Pokeball, and stood over the Ditto menacingly. He was only a few levels over ditto, but Aaron had just the trick. "Clash, come to me!"Clash bounded over as Aaron gave him as many X Accuracies he could possibly get. Drake yelled, "Ditto, transform!" Ditto transformed into a Heracross. Right as Ditto transformed, Aaron told Clash to use a move, so Clash started to charge in Ditto's direction.
The announcer was commentating, until Heracross used a Fissure, which was undoubtedly the best move possible. A one-hit KO. Ditto couldn't even use it, because it was a lower level. Killing the Ditto on one hit, Heracross landed, emitting cheers of encouragement from the crowd. Drake was fumbling for words, but then he quickly regained his composure with returning his Ditto and smirking towards Aaron. Aaron just smiled.
"Return, Crash!" Aaron yelled, returning his victorious Heracross. The announcer announced in a pompous way, "1-0, Mr. Nightshadow!" Drake reached for another ball, chucking it. "Go, Dragonite!" A large dragon appeared, sending a flame of Dragonbreath into the air, pumping up the crowd. Aaron reached for Blaster's ball. "Go, Blaster!" Aaron's Wartortle almost leapt out of his Ball, landing in a fighting position. Dragonite started to circle around Blaster, who was well defended.
"Dragonite, use a Fly, then a Dive!" Dragonite flew up and planned to nosedive Blaster. Blaster seemed to stand still... charging. Dragonite gained altitude. At first Aaron was going to tell Blaster to dodge, but he realized what Blaster was doing. Smiling, Aaron just watched, slightly tensed. Dragonite had gained maximum altitude, and began his full-speed nose-dive. Blaster just charged... Drake looked slightly nervous, because it was indeed a self-damaging move, even though it would most likely KO Blaster. Blaster charged and Dragonite dived...
Blaster shot an Ice Beam straight into the eyes of Dragonite, using the most effective move known to man against Dragon-types. Dragonite howled and at full-speed, being fainted, dropped to the ground, causing fans and bleachers to fly up. Aaron shaked, and had to hold on to the fencing around him. Drake did the same, and the announcer's cap flew off, landing on Blaster. "Er," the announcer said shakily, "That was one shaky move!" The crowd groaned at his pun. Drake looked shocked, and Aaron smiled. Cat got your tongue?
Drake looked shocked. Blaster looked great for another round, so Aaron decided to keep him in. Drake returned Dragonite with a shocked look on his face. He then regained his composure, and snarled before reaching for a good choice. "Go, Electavire!" A large, hulking, static-covered beast appeared, Blaster shaking with fear. "Electa'vire," Drake said, his mouth twisting into a grin, "Use a Volt Tackle." Obviously the Electavire was one of the best breeded in the country.
The Electavire complied, completely shocking Blaster out of his wits. Aaron couldn't help but just stare. Blaster was shocked, and his KO looked more like a KILL. Aaron returned Blaster without any visible words, but whispered to Blaster's ball, "Good job, buddy." Looking at Drake stonily, Aaron reached for a secret weapon of his. The commentator yelled, "2- Aaron, 1- Drake!" Aaron hurled the ball, roaring violently, "Go, Shijon!" Shijon, Aaron's strong and wise Tyrouge, appeared with a stony look. Shijon was a late evolution, and Aaron hoped he could evolve. If so, the round was in his bag.
"Shijon," Aaron whispered, so only Shijon could hear, "I need you to evolve. Please. For the team." Somehow Aaron knew Shijon could, because Shijon seemed to be holding back his evolution. Electavire started to stomp towards Shijon. Shijon meditated... Electavire got closer... Shijon charged... Electavire got closer... Shijon glowed... GLOWED? The announcer yelled to the fans that Shijon was evolving, and Aaron's Tyrogue started to shape shift. Metamorphosing to a Hitomon... Shijon roared in power.
"HITMON...TOP!!!!" Shijon was a Hitmontop, and Aaron could see pure glee and determination in his eyes. "Shijon, use all the martial arts you've practiced!" Shijon nodded and grinned wickedly before disappearing and reappearing in front and in behind of Electavire. The announcer, Drake, and all the watchers were shocked. Was this even a move? Shijon moved in closer, and to Electavire's dismay, landed quick, but powerful, kicks. Beating him up in ever possible area, Shijon finished it up with a spinning kick to the face, knocking the Electavire out cold.
"Wha... that was amazing, folks!" The announcer's voice was droned by gasps, cheers, and roars for Shijon, the master of Martial Arts. Drake looked a little humiliated, and returned Electavire.
"3-1, Mr. Nightshadow." Aaron smiled and congratulated Shijon, when Drake reached for his next Pokeball and hurled it into the middle of the arena, releasing... and Gengar. Aaron stopped congratulating Shijon, and quickly withdrew him. "Withdrawal. Shijon will no longer be able to battle, correct?" Aaron nodded. The referee stood and made hand signals, speaking in a clear voice.
"3-2, Mr. Nightshadow. First to 6 wins." Aaron knew he only had Clash, who was overly exhausted, Blazer, who was fine, Celeste, who was fine, and Tanith, who was a little weak to fight. Aaron toyed with his decisions before reaching for one Pokeball. His manuever would be risky, but if it worked, would pay off. "Go, Celeste!" Aaron yelled, but his yell was covered by the howling of laughter coming from Drake. "A," Drake howled, "A, Normal Type? Are you crazy? Haha, you are!" Aaron smiled nonchalantly before whispering instructions to Celeste. She looked a little worried, but Aaron had faith in her.
"Celeste, do it!" Celeste ran up to Gengar, who started to focus his Psychic energy on Celeste. Celeste continued to charge Gengar, who was charging more energy... Celeste jumped up, and shot a huge Shadow Ball at Gengar, completely wiping her and him out of the battle. "A suicidal move!" The announcer yelled, "Mr. Nightshadow has basically sacrificed his Eevee's mobility!" Aaron smiled at Celeste as he ran to scoop her up. It was her idea, and she did it brilliantly.
"Good job, Celeste," he whispered, while she smiled weakly. Aaron returned her into his Pokeball. Drake looked shocked, and was even more shocked that a Normal-type had conquered his Gengar... He returned his Gengar with a mortified look, before reaching for his second-to-last Pokemon. Aaron toyed with his three other Pokemon...
"Go, Steelix!" Drake yelled, releasing his multi-rocked Pokemon, who snapped his jaw with a crack. Aaron thought for a moment, and something just clicked. "Tanith, go!" Tanith was released, and Steelix snapped it's jaw menacingly. "Tanith, use a Vine Whip!" Tanith used a Vine Whip, trapping Steelix in a temporary bind. Tanith, attack Steelix in the eyes, where there's no steel covering. Aaron's Grovyle jumped up and started to shoot blades of leaf into the eyes, taking drastic health points away from Steelix. "Now, use Dragonbreath!" Tanith shot Dragonbreath all over Steelix's face, causing him to lose more health points and to be burned.
Steelix roared and jumped out of his bonds, crashing his head against the ground, pummeling Tanith brutally. "Brutal, eh?" Drake roared in anger, "Yeah, I can get brutal!" The crowd started to divide, some roaring for Aaron, while others for Drake. Tanith and Steelix both looked exhausted. Aaron couldn't help but feel sorry for Tanith. "Tanith," Aaron said, "Steelix is slow. Dodge his attacks, and use quick attacks!"
Tanith dodged Steelix's clumsy moves, and pecked at him, only takinga few damage. This happened on and on until Tanith was too exhausted. Steelix had 3/4 of his health gone, but was still up for a fight. "I'm withdrawing Tanith from the match," Aaron told the referee, the referee announcing it to the crowd. The crowd started to cheer more for Drake. Fair weather fans, Aaron thought to himself.
"Go, Clash!" Aaron said in a slightly hoarse voice, releasing his used but refreshed Heracross. "Cross, cross," Heracross muttered, giving a dirty look towards Steelix. Steelix would crush the little bug. Clash eyed Steelix nervously. "Clash, you have to use Fissure again! No matter what! It's the only way!" Clash nodded, and jumped up, dodging a sly move by Steelix. "NOW!" Aaron said, ripples of adrenaline shooting through his body. Heracross landed with a pound, spliting the arena into two. Steelix was immediately KOed, but Heracross fainted from exhaustion. "Both are unable to battle," the ref called, "5-5, tied." Drake smiled. Aaron smiled harder.
The crowd started to chant, "Drake or Aaron, Drake or Aaron, who's gonna win?, Drake or Aaron..." Aaron looked at Drake repulsively while reaching for his Pokeball. Drake also grabbed for his last and final Pokemon. The chucked it at the same time, hitting each other's Ball at the same time, Blazer's ball rolled back, and Drake's last Pokemon rolled back.
Blazer popped out, and Drake looked fazed... why? Maybe because he had a Venasaur who was weaker level and weak against fire-types? Maybe. Drake's Venasaur finally emerged from it's ball, and looked a little shocked. He was used to cleaning up the act, not fighting a fresh and more powerful opponent. Blazer shot a flame at Venasaur, teasingly burning off a petal. Venasaur looked furious.
Circling around, Blazer flew over to the other side of the arena. Venasaur used a Frenzy Plant, hitting Blazer a few times. Blazer retaliated with with a Flamethrower, taking several HP from Venasaur. The crowd started to chant. "AAA-RRON, AAA-RRON, AAA-RRON, AAA-RRON..." Drake looked furious, because Aaron was stealing his fans!
Aaron smiled and motioned to Blazer that this was his break. Blazer used a suddenly blast of fire, shooting it everywhere on Venasaur, KOing the creature. Drake looked shocked. The fans roared in delight. Aaron ran onto the field, while Blazer flew back to Aaron, and they hugged each other. Dragon sweat felt refreshing.
The crowds roared. Drake returned Venasaur, and looked dazed, finally leaving the stadium to go huddle in defeat with his groupies. Stupid fool. Aaron was swarmed by fans, and the Mayor of the Town presented Aaron with a plaque and the final badge. This was the happiest day of Aaron's life...
